I am so excited about this project. Miss Shannon Cruise of Big Picture High School wanted her students to dig a little deeper with this project so they will take over our job, and reach out to community members who volunteered to participate, but who would leave the artwork up to the students. These students will contact and interview the volunteers on what Durango means to them. Just like a professional artist, they are tasked with creating a symbol for their “client” after an interview and then classroom discussion of creative brainstorming. Community members were gathered all year from our workshops, online submissions and pop-ups. Obviously not everyone wants to make art, but everyone has an idea for this project, so these students will help bring those ideas to fruition.
